Patrick Garrity

Associate Attorney

Patrick Garrity | Boston Criminal Defense Attorney at Brad Bailey Law

Patrick L. Garrity is a Boston criminal defense attorney and Associate at Brad Bailey Law, P.C., where he represents individuals facing serious state and federal criminal charges. A trial-focused Massachusetts criminal defense lawyer, Patrick has helped secure not-guilty verdicts in both state and federal courts and has appeared on national media outlets, including Court TV, in connection with high-profile criminal matters.

Patrick defends clients facing life-changing accusations, including allegations of rape and sexual assault, aggravated child rape, homicide, public corruption, perjury, firearms offenses, violent crimes, and federal conspiracy charges. Since joining Brad Bailey Law, Patrick has taken on significant responsibility in some of the firm’s most complex, demanding, and closely watched criminal cases.

As a 30-year old attorney Patrick has already served as co-counsel in nearly a dozen Massachusetts Superior Court and federal jury trials, representing an unprecedented amount of serious trial experience among his peer-group. His trial work and forensic skills have helped secure not-guilty verdicts in both jurisdictions, including complete acquittals in cases carrying substantial double decades-long mandatory minimum sentences as well as possible life imprisonment.

No mere second-chair, Patrick’s trial responsibilities have included conducting direct and cross-examinations, presenting opening statements and closing arguments, preparing civilian and expert witnesses, drafting, researching and arguing evidentiary and constitutional issues, litigating dispositive motions, and helping develop comprehensive defense strategies for trial.

Patrick regularly works alongside nationally recognized criminal defense attorney Brad Bailey and Brad Bailey Law’s other veteran trial attorney Daniel Reilly. Together, the Brad Bailey Law trial team represents clients throughout Massachusetts in cases where their liberty, reputations, careers, and futures are at stake.

Massachusetts Superior Court Trial Experience

Patrick has served as defense counsel in numerous Massachusetts Superior Court jury trials involving charges of aggravated child rape, rape, sexual assault, firearms offenses, and other serious felonies. His trial experience extends across Massachusetts and includes cases prosecuted in several counties and judicial districts.

Within a little more than one year, Patrick helped secure complete acquittals in two separate aggravated child rape trials. In both cases, the clients faced exceptionally serious allegations, including life in prison, and the possibility of lengthy mandatory state-prison sentences.

In one Worcester County prosecution, Patrick and Daniel defended a client charged with multiple aggravated child rape offenses carrying mandatory minimum sentences of 15 years to life imprisonment. Following a multi-day trial involving civilian witnesses and medical testimony, the jury returned not-guilty verdicts on every count after deliberating for fewer than three hours.

The complete acquittal marked Patrick’s second full acquittal in an aggravated child rape trial within a little more than one year. These results reflect his detailed preparation, careful analysis of testimonial inconsistencies, disciplined witness examinations, and ability to advocate effectively in cases involving emotionally charged and potentially life-altering accusations. Patrick has also defended clients in other major Massachusetts criminal trials that ended without a conviction, allowing the accused to return home rather than face immediate imprisonment.

Federal Criminal Defense and Federal Jury-Trial Experience

In addition to his Massachusetts state-court practice, Patrick has substantial federal criminal defense experience in the United States District Court. He has participated in federal jury trials resulting in not-guilty verdicts and assists in defending clients charged in complex federal prosecutions involving conspiracy, controlled substances, firearms, financial allegations, and other serious federal offenses.

Patrick’s federal criminal defense work includes:

  • Federal jury-trial preparation and courtroom advocacy;
  • Constitutional and evidentiary motion practice;
  • Motions to suppress evidence and statements;
  • Federal sentencing advocacy;
  • Analysis of the United States Sentencing Guidelines;
  • Witness preparation and examination;
  • Review of extensive electronic, forensic, financial, and investigative discovery;
  • Negotiations with federal prosecutors; and
  • Development of defenses in complex and multi-defendant conspiracy cases.

Patrick regularly appears in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and has also worked on federal criminal matters in the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire.

New Hampshire State and Federal Criminal Cases

Raised in New Hampshire, Patrick maintains strong personal and professional ties to the state. His criminal defense experience includes matters in the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Superior Court, and the New Hampshire Circuit Court’s District Division.

Patrick’s New Hampshire work has included serious felony prosecutions, constitutional challenges, pretrial litigation, post-conviction proceedings, motions for a new trial, evidentiary hearings, and complex questions involving venue and territorial jurisdiction.

This experience allows Patrick and the Brad Bailey Law team to provide coordinated criminal defense representation in cases that cross the Massachusetts–New Hampshire border or involve parallel proceedings in both jurisdictions.

Recognized Trial Advocacy

Patrick’s courtroom advocacy has received direct recognition from members of the judiciary. Following trial, a judge personally addressed Patrick in chambers regarding the quality of his courtroom performance and trial advocacy.

That recognition reflects the preparation, command of the evidence, and professional discipline Patrick brings to the courtroom. Whether questioning a witness, arguing an evidentiary issue, or presenting the defense theory to a jury, Patrick approaches each responsibility with the understanding that the client’s freedom and future may depend upon it.

High-Profile Criminal Defense and Media Experience

At Brad Bailey Law, Patrick has played a central role in the defense of high-profile criminal cases receiving significant local, national, and international media attention. These matters have involved allegations of rape, homicide, public corruption, law-enforcement misconduct, perjury, firearms offenses, and federal conspiracy.

Patrick has appeared on television and other media outlets, including Court TV, in connection with significant criminal cases and developments in the criminal justice system. His media experience complements his courtroom practice and reflects his ability to communicate complicated legal and factual issues clearly, accurately, and effectively. High-profile criminal cases require more than courtroom skill. They demand careful management of publicity, protection of the client’s reputation, strategic coordination among attorneys and investigators, and disciplined decision-making throughout the case.

Patrick works closely with managing partner Brad Bailey and the Brad Bailey Law defense team to ensure that public attention does not displace the evidence, the presumption of innocence, or the client’s constitutional right to a fair trial.

Criminal Motions, Constitutional Litigation, and Pretrial Advocacy

Patrick’s criminal defense practice extends well beyond the jury-trial courtroom. He researches, drafts, and litigates complex motions involving constitutional law, criminal procedure, evidence, prosecutorial disclosure obligations, and unlawful government conduct.

His motion practice includes:

  • Motions to suppress physical evidence and statements;
  • Motions to dismiss criminal charges and indictments;
  • Challenges to defective or insufficient indictments;
  • Brady, Giglio, Napue, and other prosecutorial-disclosure claims;
  • Motions for required findings of not guilty;
  • Rule 17 subpoena litigation;
  • Motions involving unlawful searches and seizures;
  • Evidentiary and constitutional motions in limine;
  • Post-conviction motions and motions for a new trial;
  • Challenges involving venue and territorial jurisdiction; and
  • Federal sentencing memoranda and mitigation advocacy.

Motions researched, drafted, or litigated by Patrick have contributed to the exclusion of important prosecution evidence and the dismissal of charges in multiple criminal cases. Patrick is regularly entrusted with analyzing voluminous records, identifying constitutional and evidentiary weaknesses, interviewing and preparing witnesses, consulting with investigators and experts, and transforming complicated facts into a focused and persuasive defense strategy.

Experience Before Joining Brad Bailey Law

Before joining Brad Bailey Law, Patrick gained substantial experience in serious felony litigation while working with criminal defense attorney Ian T.R. Davis. His work included assisting in the preparation and defense of three first-degree murder trials. That early exposure to murder trials and other high-stakes criminal litigation provided Patrick with a strong foundation in witness preparation, evidentiary analysis, cross-examination, jury strategy, and the development of persuasive defense narratives.

As a result, Patrick entered practice with an unusual level of experience handling the factual, legal, and strategic demands of serious criminal trials.

Suffolk University Law School and Early Courtroom Experience

Patrick earned his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School in Boston. While attending Suffolk Law, he participated in the Defenders Clinical Program and was certified to practice as a student attorney under Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Rule 3:03.

Through the Defenders Clinic, Patrick represented indigent clients in the Boston Municipal Court. He appeared in court, advocated for individuals who could not afford private counsel, and gained direct experience confronting the immediate human consequences of criminal prosecution. That work reinforced Patrick’s commitment to criminal defense and his belief that every person accused of a crime deserves a prepared, determined, and independent advocate.

Massachusetts Rising Stars Recognition

Patrick was selected to the 2025 Massachusetts Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers® in recognition of his criminal defense work, courtroom advocacy, and professional accomplishments. The selection came at an early stage of a legal career already marked by substantial jury-trial responsibility, state and federal courtroom experience, and successful results in cases involving mandatory minimum sentences and potential life imprisonment. He has been reelected as a rising star every year since.

A Client-Centered Approach to Criminal Defense

Patrick understands that an arrest or criminal accusation affects far more than the case appearing on a court docket. It can threaten a client’s freedom, employment, professional license, immigration status, family relationships, financial security, and reputation. For that reason, he approaches every case with intensive preparation and individualized attention. Patrick works to understand not only the prosecution’s evidence, but also the client’s history, priorities, vulnerabilities, and objectives.

His approach combines aggressive courtroom advocacy with strategic judgment. Some cases require immediate and forceful litigation. Others require patience, investigation, expert consultation, or careful negotiation. In every matter, Patrick’s objective is to identify the strongest available defense and position the client for the best possible result.

Raised in New Hampshire and a Boston resident for more than a decade, Patrick remains closely connected to both communities. He volunteers with local shelters and is an avid supporter of Boston sports. Through steadfast preparation, relentless advocacy, and personal investment in his clients, Patrick Garrity advances the mission of Brad Bailey Law: providing sophisticated, strategic, and trial-ready criminal defense when the consequences could not be greater.
