FOX 25: Hernandez’s fiancee granted immunity in murder case

FALL RIVER, Mass. (http://www.fox25boston.com/) — Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez’s fiancee Shayanna Jenkins has been granted immunity in his murder trial.

FOX25 has obtained a court document showing that Judge Susan Garsh will allow a “judicial order of immunity” for Jenkins. She is the mother of Hernandez’s child and is also the sister of the murder victim’s girlfriend, Sheneah Jenkins.

Legal analyst Brad Bailey says granting immunity keeps Jenkins from pleading the 5th if she is forced to testify. A tactic commonly used by prosecutors.

“No question it’s a tactic to strong arm people to testify and it’s certainly a signal that they believe Ms. Jenkins knows something important, helpful, and useful to their case,” he said.

Prosecutors believe Jenkins may know where the murder weapon is. They believe she helped remove the gun from their home after Hernandez directed her to. Leaving many to wonder, will Jenkins flip on her fiancee and testify against him?

Jenkins is facing a perjury charge after prosecutors say she lied to a grand jury about what she knows.

Bailey says, “There is a lot at stake for her and a lot for her to think about.”

Bailey says, if Jenkins does testify against Hernandez it may not be the golden ticket prosecutors were hoping for. He says the defense will have a field day over the fact she’s already been labeled a liar by the prosecution.

Testimony will resume Wednesday after a two day delay to due the snow.
