Pittsburgh woman admits to scamming Boston brides

(NECN: John Moronoey) – A Pittsburgh woman admitted she scammed hundreds of Boston brides-to-be. Today Karen Tucker plead guilty today to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges.

Tucker is accused of defrauding brides, advertisers and exhibitors out of thousands of dollars by organizing a fake bridal show in Boston. She admitted to taking money from vendors and brides for a bridal show she never intended to hold.

“She accepted responsibility for her conduct,” said her attorney Brad Bailey. “She thereby has saved the government, society, and others the cost and expense of a trial. She clearly wants to put this behind her.”

The Boston 411 Spring Home & Bridal Show was set to take place in March, but the scam fell apart. Tucker was arrested in August in Pennsylvania.

She has pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. In court it was revealed she has a criminal history and has suffered from mental illness. She faces up to five years in prison.
